I picked up my bi-pap machine today, and I have it all set up and ready to roll. I have to admit that I'm nervous about my first session. But it looks all sleek and high tech and my nose pillows mask has a spiff purple strap. So if I hate it and end up throwing that purple strapped mask across the room in frustration tonight at least it will look good dangling from my dresser mirror.
Grr. Tried to add a pic but something isn't working.
As always, I will keep y'all posted.

Julia, I am thinking of you. A preliminary test showed sleep apnea for me as well, but I did not follow up with the full study at the center. I just know that as light of a sleeper as I am I don't think I could ever get used to the machine. I am anxiously awaiting your follow up posts to let me know how you do. Right now I am just elevating my head drastically, and using the breathe right strips.
Julia,
Give getting used to it some time. I have to say it took me a good 6 months to finally get used to it. It's been about 14 months now and I do sleep a much deeper sleep than before and if I do not you the machine I notice a difference in how I sleep. So hang In there!
If you're a mouth breather, be sure to ask for a chin strap. Also, I use ear plugs so I'm not nearly aware of the sound of the machine. Every new machine I get is quieter than the previous one. (I end up replacing mine about every 5 years-if you're on Social Security that’s how often they will pay for a new machine.) Check your hoses regularly for leaks-they usually get crinkly around the fittings when they get old & you get less airflow then. The headgear usually needs to be replaced about every 6 months because it stretches out & doesn't work as well then.
If you have ongoing questions about using the machine, masks, etc. I found a lot of help from the Sleep Apnea Support group at www.dailystrength,org.

I hope you have an easy adjustment to CPAP.. Luckily, I did. And I woke up after my first night feeling soooo good, so rested, I never fought the machine. But everyone is different.
Give it a fair chance and enjoy the feeling in the morning.
