I love our research and development sessions.

After our blackberry picking and pureeing adventures, my quest for the use of the puree was this: to re-create an absolutely delicious blackberry drink served in a martini glass at The Melting Pot.

Those things are wickedly superb. And potent -- potent enough to subdue the pain from my newly abscessed tooth. Yummy therapy, that.

Last night, John and I and Greg and Terese set about recreating the drink, and I'm here to tell ya -- wahoo! We did it thanks to John's discerning taste. I was convinced that the drink was a martini. John insisted that we needed to begin with tequila; and he was spot on.

Here's an approximation of the recipe that we concocted:

Blackberry Blast (Like the name? I thought it up all by myself.)

Makes 4 martini glass servings

Rub rims of four martini glasses with lemon wedge and dip rims into superfine sugar. Put sugared glasses into freezer.

In a martini shaker, add:

½ C sweetened blackberry puree
¼ C simple syrup
¼ C water
¼ C tequila
scant ¼ C Grand Marnier
¼ C lime juice

Add ice, shake, and strain into chilled glasses.

Yum.
