I've always had problems with my nails, easy to break and lots of ridges. Also I have clubbed fingernails which my rhuemy says are a sign of autoimmune issues.
I had a terrible time with my nails splitting, ridges, chipping and cracking for a couple of years before I ever knew about Sjogren's. By accident I stumbled upon the only thing that has helped the nails and my peace of mind. I am a user of essential oils and someone shared a nail strengthening recipe. That has been one of the best and beneficial discoveries. My primary and rheumy doctors were impressed with the results.
The recipe is below. It is not an overnight fix all, but made a huge difference for mine over a period of time.Even helped with the ridges.
Fingernail Strengthening Serum
1 1/4 teaspoon Jojoba oil 1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil 5 drops each of lavender, lemon, myrrh and frankincense essential oils. (make sure you use good quality oils) Put all in a roller bottle and gently shake before each use. Apply and massage into nails and cuticles several times a day in the beginning. As they improve you can cut down the number of times.
