Another Sjoggie

Image found here.

I'm so sorry to see that Venus Williams had to withdraw from the U.S. Open because of Sjogren's syndrome.

You can read more here.

We know how you feel, girl.....dang.

I was shocked to hear about this as well yesterday. I have been reading a lot of comments on Sjogren's sites about how people feel this will be great for the illness, bringing awareness to the public. Although I agree with that, I think as fellow Sjogren's sufferers we should step back and respect what this woman is dealing with right now and give her some time to breathe and figure out her next move with her doctors.

Gee it would be even harder to be her... and so young. Wow!

There was a close up picture of her at the Open, and I thought she looked exhausted and ill, and she looked as though she had aged tremendously. Now I know why. I do feel sorry for her because life will not be the same, and although she is positive she will be playing, I seriously doubt she can keep up the level of competitiveness without seriously damaging her health more.

Her interview on Good Morning America was very good. They didn't downplay the disease at all. Her dry eye and dry mouth issues were secondary to the other life altering symptoms. I think people hear dry eyes and mouth and think "big deal".

I hate to see anyone diagnosed with this awful thing. On the other hand we sure have a power house "face" for Sjogrens.

She said that she was diagnosed a couple weeks ago but has been effected for years. She knew she couldn't play when she couldn't even lift her racket. My heart sank for her.

Me again...

I have found so much helpful information here... thank you. I am having another day where I just don't feel like doing any of the things I would like to be doing.

I came across an article about diet... and omitting grains??? What is your opinion on this. How important is diet and Sjogren's??
Also for weight loss and retaining muscle I started a protein drink every morning... 100% Whey protein. Could this be making me feel worse? Do you think? I need to make a list for my next doctor visit... but being so new at this... I need all the help I can get.

I'm sorry for her, like I said: I will not give this illness to my worst ennemy.
